Should you aim to close clients in two calls, or one?

The debate as to whether one or two call closing is the best practice has been going on for some time now. I’ve personally conducted 2200 discovery calls (my business partner recently counted) and I’ve followed a specific model for all of them, averaging out a 40% closing rate over my career.
