Sometimes you get to the end of your rope with a long process. Other times you wonder if a call from God means you are operating under delusions of grandeur. It had to be ME because God does not get things wrong. Maybe I misinterpreted the Call. That could happen, right?

About halfway through seminary, I discovered a master's thesis spelling out statistically how unlikely it was that I would serve in the denomination I was called under. And even though one of the profs had mentioned the likelihood of working in another denomination when I was doing the initial visit to check out the seminary, I heard what he said but decided a non-stick approach was best.

I like numbers. I was a math major at one point. Numbers speak to me. Numbers speak rather starkly. I continued with my education, albeit a bit less inflated than when I began. In retrospect, humility is always a good thing, but at the time, that's not what I did with my situation.

I finished my degree, went on to get ordained, and always in the back of my mind I thought, "Something will change when I..." (graduate? get ordained?)

But, I had gotten to the end of my rope. Maybe it was the end of myself?

This is a "don't try this at home" kind of episode. Not sure why I decided to address this issue with God while I was driving on a major highway, but hindsight doesn't always clear the mud.
