Due to matters beyond Josephine County, Oregon’s control extreme budget cuts had to be made. First up on the chopping block was the sheriff’s department. When the citizens of the town were asked to vote yes on a tax levy which would keep the sheriff's department operating at the same level it had before they voted no, for years. They did this despite being broadcasted on national television due to infuriating 911 calls and a dramatic increase in criminal activity.
