When the grandmother of Camille Intson (AKA Camie, @thecamiliad ) passed away, she left countless photographs and pieces of history that led Camille to investigate her family history and Estonian heritage in a deep way, ultimately leading to a road trip across Estonia with her mother and eventually, an exhibit at VEMU Estonian Museum Canada. Torontos käis hiljuti koolijuhtide ja haridustegelaste delegatsioon Eestist. EstoCasti stuudios jagasid mõtteid kohustuslikust kirjandusest Eesti koolides Pelgulinna Riigigümnaasiumi direktor Indrek Lillemägi (töötanud emakeeleõpetajana 4 aastat), Võru Gümnaasiumi õppejuht Annely Hindrikson (töötanud emakeeleõpetajana 16 aastat) ja Narva Eesti Gümnaasiumi juht Irene Käosaar (erialaks eesti keel teise keelena). Vestlust juhtis esmakordselt Toronto ülikooli eesti keele ja kultuuri lektor Kadri Tüür. Singer, songwriter, and soundscape builder Mart Avi is bound to turn your head when you first hear his music. Even through the sounds alone, you can tell he has a very physical approach to music, including an almost percussive style of singing. And there are an abundance of stories to dig into lyrically. Welcome back to EstoCast, we hope you enjoyed the summer! As this is the year of multiculturalism in Estonia, we’re continuing on with that theme but there’s also another important occasion that we’re marking in our episodes here this fall - the 80th anniversary of the Great Escape of 1944. We’ll be having guests in the studio that both have first-hand experience of the Great Escape and with younger generations to understand what the impact of the Great Escape has been on them. In the second episode of our fresh fall season, we’re speaking with a young, active member of diaspora Estonian communities, Maiki Müürsepp. Up for discussion are topics such as what Maiki’s persepective of the Great Escape of 1944 is and the importance of global Estonian communities, specifically in North America. In this latest episode, you’ll hear about the following: 🇪🇪 how different perspectives factor into an active, multicultural society 🇪🇪 why keeping the story of the Great Escape of 1944 relevant and at the forefront is important 🇪🇪 how the Great Escape has affected Maiki both directly and indirectly as a third-generation descendant of refugees 🇪🇪 and much more! Then, just as his vinyl collection became too big for his family’s apartment, an opportunity came around to open a small record store. As Anneliis Kits sees it, musicians are humans just like everyone else. And yet, in the way they are idolized and/or vilified, many artists have had their humanity taken away from them. Tere tulemast, welcome! This is EstoCast! Muusika, ajalugu, raamatud, eestlaseks olemise võlud ja valud… sellest kõigest me räägimegi! EstoCast started as a simple idea in the early part of 2022, to start a podcast where we could talk at length about this country that we call our home away from home—Estonia. Estonians love to talk about their country… and we hope you’ll like to listen just as much as we like to talk! EstoCast jõuab teieni tänu Torontos Tartu College´is sõbralikult koos tegutsevatele partneritele: Väliseesti Muuseum/VEMU ehk Estonian Museum Canada, VEMU seni suurim kultuuriprojekt Estonian Music Week ning ajaleht Eesti Elu/Estonian Life. EstoCast came together through the joint collaboration of three distinct organizations working under the same roof in Toronto: VEMU Estonian Museum Canada, Estonian Music Week, and Eesti Elu / Estonian Life newspaper.
